Book Fair 2020

27th January 2020Mrs C Allison

Just a reminder that our annual Book Fair is on now!

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WO78ZsTaAMPXjh8pS6ZYyzYqhgzBPsgj

On Tuesday, the Fair will stay open until 4:15pm to enable those of you who collect your children from school to view the exciting range of books and stationery items on offer – including the specialist teenage section for our oldest students.  It would be lovely to see you!

The Fair is open every morning break and lunchtime for the rest of the week.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LNejgsufqB7M6VcHCleJuKfD988etxpO

We strongly recommend a visit to

https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/travelling-books/parents

from which you can purchase discount vouchers

giving your child 20% more book buying power at the Fair.

The free helpline is 0800 212 281

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1EkqLb_lnfyh53usaJhdtEO-2bTJ2d5wi

60% of the total Fair takings come back to school to be spent

directly on our children, so it’s well worth supporting.

Last year we broke the £3,000 ceiling and are only the second school to achieve this!

With your help, we might even do it again!

These hard-working Fair Makers from Y7 and 8 had just spent four intensive hours arranging all the stationery and books and will be helping every day!

¡Español es fenomenal!

22nd January 2020Mrs C Allison

The first round of the MFL Spelling Bee took place this week.  Pupils in Year 7 learnt a bank of 50 Spanish words off by heart and had to spell as many as they could using the Spanish alphabet in one minute.  This is the first time we have participated using Spanish rather than French,  so all of our competitors are part of history in the making! Congratulations to the five winners who go through to compete in the second round next month.  Or, we should say,  ‘Felicitaciones’!

Bitesize Languages

21st January 2020Mrs C Allison

A team from BBC Bitesize came into school this week to get the views of our Y7.  The website designers are in the process of putting together online activities and revision material for KS3 MFL and wanted feedback on their work so far.  Our pupils were very forthcoming with their opinions, highlighting the positives they saw and what the team could do to make it even more appealing. The website goes live in a few months and will be available for all to access in school and at home.

Sign2Sing Event 2020

16th January 2020Sarah Hall

The students of Newminster and Chantry Middle Schools have been learning to sign and sing songs ready to join the yearly Sign2Sing event on Tuesday 11th February. This will be done as a whole school and will take place in the Chantry School Hall during the school day.

We think this is a terrific initiative which has taught the children a new and valuable skill as well as raising awareness of deaf issues.

SignHealth, which is a national charity, dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of deaf people, are behind the event. SignHealth is simply asking for a £1 donation in return for wearing non-school uniform on Tuesday 11th February and taking part in the event. All money raised will go towards helping SignHealth transform the lives of thousands of people living in the UK.

For more information about Sign2Sing please visit www.sign2sing.org.uk

These are the links to the songs we are learning for the event if your child would like to practise at home.
