Kingswood 2018

23rd May 2018Mrs K Shutler

Year 6 enjoyed another highly successful trip to Dukeshouse Wood, Hexham in May. Being away from home for a full week was going to be a challenge for some pupils and parents but due to the days being non-stop, there was not a chance to miss home comforts.

The pupils were an absolute credit to the school for the entire week showing excellent team work, resilience and courage as they tackled any challenge put in their way. Activities included Jacob Ladders, Abseiling, Equilibrium, Drama, Nightline, Disco and not to mention the 3G Swing.

Hartlepool Power Station

1st May 2018J Edwards

Some students in year 8 visited EDF’s Nuclear Power Station in Hartlepool as a satellite event of British Science Week. Students found out more about how a gas cooled nuclear reactor works and saw how safety was the overriding priority on site. During the tour students got to see the reactor, boiler, condenser and transformer. They also found out about the 3 categories of nuclear waste and how the waste is processed.

This year we couldn’t go into the turbine room as maintenance was being carried out. The students got to go into a simulation of the main control room which is a replica used for training. A member of staff showed the students some of the alarms & switches & two students modelled shutting down a reactor in the case of an emergency.

After the tour students used electronics kits to model circuits and come up with ideas of how they could use technology to improve the lives of people with a disability or the elderly. They worked in groups & presented their ideas to the rest of the group. The winning team got a prize from EDF & all students got a souvenir.

The Football Cage comes to Chantry

4th April 2018Mrs K Shutler

As part of Sports Relief week here at Chantry, the pupils in both Year 7 and 8 were given the opportunity to work with North East Youth for Christ to develop their communication and team work skills before entering the ‘Football Cage.’

Once in the football cage the pupils worked as a team to play a high intensity, fast paced 2 minute 2 a-side game of football.

The event was a huge success and feedback from Chantry pupils who said they “enjoyed the experience” “it was fun” and “understood that it is important to be able to work as a team.”

The staff who joined us from North East Youth for Christ commented that “it was so great to come and be a part of Chantry for two days, we loved every minute.”
