Primary Mathematics Challenge

1st December 2020Mrs C Allison
All Year 6 children recently took part in the 2020 Primary Maths Challenge.Ā The Primary Mathematics Challenge is a fun and exciting mathematical Challenge aimed at pupils inĀ years 5 and 6 England and Wales.
Ā
The Primary Maths Challenge is designed to make pupils think outside the box. The questions asked are not necessarily subjects that have been covered in the curriculum by this time but the questions can create a great starting point and lead to discussions later in the year. The questions are not heavily reliant on formal mathematical knowledge, but can be solved by logical reasoning. You can look at example questions on their website:Ā https://www.primarymathschallenge.org.uk/
Ā
We are pleased to announce the winners of the gold, bronze and silver certificates below. Congratulations to the winners and well done to all of Year 6 for taking part and showing such resilience throughout.

ķ•œźµ ģ“ģ•¼źø° A KoreIAN Storey

26th November 2020Mrs C Allison

ģ•ˆė…•!Ā  The MFL department at Chantry has a new string to its bow.Ā  In addition to creating budding Francophones and Hispanophones, a bit of Korean is now on the menu.Ā  Earlier this year, Miss Said started learning Korean and when the school reopened fully in September, she had an idea. ā€œMr Storey, one of our highly talented cover supervisors, is a keen linguist and a great asset to the languages team.Ā  As his name is Ian, we have launched A KoreIAN Storey where he takes us all with him on his Korean adventures – whether it be trying the food, teaching us some key phrases or dipping his toe into the culture, you will be both entertained and educated.ā€

Mr Storey : ā€œI’ve always loved being part of French and Spanish during my time at Chantry so the opportunity to get involved with another language sounded great fun. I admit that my Korean knowledge is not excellent but with every episode, I’m learning more and more about their language and culture. Whilst following Miss Said’s strict direction has been challenging, I’ve loved the episodes we’ve shot so far and am looking forward to filming the next chapter.ā€

Pupils and staff at Chantry have responded to the show with great enthusiasm.

Robbie, Y8Ā  : ā€œThe show is really funny and it has taught me a lot.Ā  I learned how Konglish is where Koreans take an English word and put their own twist on it to pronounce it.Ā  However, they don’t have a F sound, so they change it to a P.Ā  For example, the word ā€˜coffee’ is pronounced ā€˜coppee’.Ā  I think A KoreIAN Storey is an exciting way for people to learn something new.ā€

Ms Hoyle : ā€œAn epic masterpiece!Ā  The show is a must see for anyone who enjoys learning about new cultures served up in a humorous and entertaining way.ā€

The series is now on YouTube with two successful episodes already available to view.Ā  And with comments on the last episode such as ā€˜The greatest 16 minutes and 57 seconds of my life’, how can you possibly miss out?

You can find the links to both episodes here . ģ•ˆė…•!
