What can I do to help as a parent?

19th March 2015Mrs K Shutler
  • good-luckFirstly, stay calm! Encourage children to do as well as they can but also not to worry. SATs are an opportunity for children to demonstrate what they know and what they can do well
  • Make sure children get enough sleep and enough breakfast
  • Encourage children to revise but don’t force them
  • Try to encourage children to ask their teacher if they have any concerns or worries
  • Read together. Try to encourage children to read texts associated with events or interests that are meaningful to them; for example, if they like football, read through a match programme or a newspaper report with them

Curriculum

18th November 2014Mrs K Shutler

How will the curriculum be matched to my child’s needs?

It is a guiding principle of all our schools that children with SEND are valued equally and are part of a whole school approach where a child’s need is recognised and met through a varied and flexible provision throughout the curriculum.

IMG_2538All staff and adults are aware of those children who need additional support for any reason. Work is carefully differentiated as appropriate by the subject/class teacher to meet your child’s needs, ensuring progress. Due to highly focussed support by our Learning Support teams and an understanding of specific needs we endeavour to give your child the very best possible chance to maximise their potential and raise their self-esteem.

The progress of children with special educational needs or disabilities is monitored carefully and further support is put into place if necessary. Rigorous tracking systems inform us of any child who is falling behind and who may need further intervention. We aim to keep Parents fully involved in the process and you will be informed of any interventions or programmes which we feel would benefit your child. The SENCO will work closely with the subject/class teacher to offer further advice if necessary.
