In the 23-24 academic year, we proudly partnered with the Department for Education’s (DfE) Behaviour Hubs programme—an initiative supporting schools to improve behaviour through collaboration and shared expertise. Working closely with experienced lead schools, we reviewed and strengthened our behaviour systems,  refining our approach to behaviour, placing relationships, consistency and high expectations at the heart of school life.

Our Behaviour Policy

Our behaviour policy reflects our school values of care, respect and responsibility. It aims to create a calm, safe and purposeful environment where all pupils can thrive.

The policy includes:

  • Clear Expectations: Pupils are expected to be punctual, prepared, respectful and focused. Behaviour expectations are taught explicitly and reinforced throughout the year.
  • Consistent Routines: A structured behaviour curriculum outlines routines that help create a calm, safe, and structured environment where pupils know what to expect and what’s expected of them
  • Positive Reinforcement: Good behaviour is recognised through praise, certificates, house points and parent communication. All rewards link to our house system.
  • Proportionate Sanctions: Disruptions are addressed using a stepped warning system. Restorative conversations help repair relationships.
  • Relational Approach: Staff build strong relationships with pupils to create a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Support and Inclusion: Additional help is available for pupils who need it, including mentoring, adapted routines, and access to “The Nest” – a supportive space to self-regulate.

Our Learner Habits

At Chantry, we teach six simple learner habits that help pupils succeed every day. These habits are designed to keep pupils safe and ensure they understand what’s expected of them. They support everyday routines like punctuality, organisation, behaviour, and homework — helping pupils make the most of school life and preparing them for later life.

Our six learner habits are:

  1. Positive Response – Speak politely, stay calm, and sort out problems in the right way.

  2. Be On Time, Every Time – Arrive on time for school and lessons to build good habits for the future.

  3. Be Prepared to Learn – Bring the right equipment, have a reading book, and be ready to learn.

  4. Focus on the Task – Listen, follow instructions, and stay on track with your work.

  5. Wear Correct Uniform – Look smart and take pride in your appearance, just like in the world of work.

  6. Meet Homework Deadlines – Complete homework on time and to a good standard.

These habits help all pupils feel confident, capable, and ready to learn.
