Chantry Middle School is pleased to have Nicola Haugh delivering play therapy sessions to children on Tuesdays. Play Therapy is a gentle but highly effective therapeutic approach for children and young people. It is child-led and delivered by specially trained Play Therapists to support children who are struggling emotionally in ways that affect their mental health and wellbeing. Since children often lack the words to articulate their feelings verbally, Play Therapy gives them the opportunity to explore emotions, express themselves creatively, and make sense of confusing or traumatic events through play and creative arts, with Nicola’s guidance. Play Therapy helps children feel less overwhelmed by their thoughts and emotions, calming big feelings and reducing challenging behaviours. It allows children to “play out” their experiences in the same way adults “talk out” their feelings. Working through challenges alongside their therapist can alleviate emotional distress and increase resilience and well-being.
